Welcome back to VR Porn Bro, and today is our first VR porn related headset review. You will find a million and one reviews out there for the Oculus Go, but only a handful will even mention what it is like for viewing VR porn. So, don”t be shy, let’s dig into the details 🙂
Before we start, I want to make it clear that I bought this headset with my own money, and will do a full and honest review based on my experiences.

My VR headset history…
To preface this review, I want to tell you my experience with VR headsets. This will help you see where I came from and add perspective to this review. Actually, I have only had one VR headset before, and that was a strange beast called the OSVR HDK2 headset! This was a fully fledged VR headset that you need to plug into a decent PC to get it working. The hardware of this headset was great, and gave me a good experience in VR porn. However, the open source support ended up being a bit flaky to say the least. As of today, the software is barely being developed for this headset. Other than my HDK2, I did try a headset that I had to strap my phone into, but the less said about this the better. It was a shaky and wobbly experience that totally wasn’t worth my time.
What is the Oculus Go?
The Oculus Go is one of the first breed of Oculus headsets that can operate un-tethered, but still offer a high quality VR experience. It is a standalone product that doesn’t need to be hooked up to a PC. It has it’s own processing unit, much like what you would find in a mobile phone. The screen is one of the highest resolution VR headset screens on the market at the time of writing. It also has an interesting take on the audio, having small speakers built into the strap of the headset, where your ears are positioned.
The key thing to note here is that it doesn’t have the ability to track the user moving around a room, it only has the ability to track the users head movements. Also, it has a laser pointer style controller that syncs up to the headset and allows you to select things, type etc.
The specifications of the Oculus Go make for great reading. They have a Snapdragon 821 mobile chipset in the unit, backed up by Adreno 530 graphics. It has a 2600mAh battery and 3GB of ram. The screen used has a resolution of 2560×1440, and is 5.5 inches in size. If all that doesn’t sound enough like the specs of a smartphone, it actually runs on the Android operating system (although you wouldn’t know it). The only other things to note are that the screen has a refresh rate of 72mhz, and the Go is sold in two options with either 32GB or 64GB of internal storage.
Why Did I buy the Oculus Go?
Frankly, I don’t have much interest in VR gaming, something that I grow tired of quickly. Therefore, I didn’t see the point in buying a fully fledged up to $1000 headset just for viewing VR porn. The Oculus Go seemed perfect. Especially as I managed to get a good deal locally from a guy that had bought a load of them for a single use in a trade show 🙂 It enables me to watch high quality VR porn at a fraction of the cost, with very little setup involved. I ended up getting the 32GB model of the Oculus Go, as that was all that the guy selling the units had!
I was able to get my Oculus Go up and running in no time. You simply turn it on and connect to the Oculus smartphone app. You then connect the device to wifi through this app and away you go. The final setup is done in the Go’s headset itself.
What do I like about my Oculus Go?
Image Quality
I have to say that I find it amazing that the Oculus Go can offer slightly better resolution than my last HDK2 headset, all in a standalone package. Whilst watching VR porn, I have noticed a visual bump in quality from that last headset. Not massive, but a bump all the same. The only downside here, is that the resolution and frame rate of the unit can vary to help save the battery. That means you are not always getting the best visuals possible on the headset, but to be honest I don’t really notice anything major here.
I also find the head tracking whilst in videos to be great, very smooth and accurate. I haven’t seen any blurring effect, which is something I would see sometimes on the old headset.
Lightweight and Comfortable
This has to be the major difference I noticed when I first wore this headset. It felt light and comfortable on my head, which makes a change from what I had experienced before. I don’t get hot easily, the lenses don’t easily mist up, and I can even wear the headset fine with glasses (they have a special spacer for that).
Price
When the Oculus Go was first released, they were marked up at $199 (32GB) and $249 (64GB) respectively. Considering how much we are used to paying for VR headsets, this is a great new price point to enter. It brings VR porn to the masses. More recently, this price has been discounted even more. I believe it got down to as low as $129 during the last big holiday sales in America. Now, VR porn is becoming more of a possibility due to such low prices. And this is only going to get better in the future.
Little to No Setup
It was so easy to setup this headset compared to my HDK2 before. With that one, I had to mess around installing drivers on my PC, balancing a sensor above my monitor and generally spending the first few hours scratching my head. Not so with the Oculus Go. It is an all in one standalone unit that can be set up in minutes and doesn’t require any external help for its head tracking
Perfect Specifications for VR porn
This is the first standalone headset that really fits the requirements of VR porn and nothing more. You don’t need room scale tracking to watch VR porn, so why pay extra for it? The head tracking is there and works great, that’s all you need.
Amazing Sound Implementation
Don’t get me wrong, the Oculus Go doesn’t have audiophile level audio quality, but it still allows you to connect your own 3.5mm headphones if you want that. But whoever designed the speakers integrated into the headband are genius’. It’s like voodoo magic. You can’t see them, but you hear them as soon as you place the headset on your head. And, for me, I find the audio great for watching VR porn scenes. I just love the fact I don’t have to fiddle around with wearing an additional headset, something I was forced to do with my last headset.
The ability to lock the Oculus Go
As I only use my Oculus Go for VR porn, I don’t really want the younger members of my extended family coming around to my house and accidentally stumbling across VR porn. Therefore, to have a lock screen upon entry is a great feature that the Go has (clearly just carried over straight from mobile). This lock code is easily configured in the settings of the Oculus Go smartphone app that your Go is connected to. Simple.
What don’t I like about my Oculus Go?
Streaming can be Annoying
Using the headset to stream VR porn can be annoying depending on the porn provider you use. They all seem to have different apps they support and streaming from the Oculus browser is limited at best. I wish that all these VR porn studios would come together and support one VR player app, it would make the process so much simpler!
Low internal storage for VR Porn?
I have the 32GB model, but it wouldn’t be much better with the 64GB model either in my opinion. To get a high quality VR porn scene for this headset, we are talking somewhere in the range of a 5-7GB file. So, it doesn’t take many of these to fill up the internal storage. I have excellent internet at home, so I often get around this problem by streaming my VR porn. The other way to get around the problem is to use something like the SkyBox VR player, that allows you to connect to and view videos on a PC linked to your home network.
Battery Life
This has to be the most annoying aspect of this headset. Officially, Oculus are claiming a playtime of around 2 or 2.5 hours before the battery runs low. However, from my real world experience it is more like 1-1.5 hours. Sometimes, the battery percentage of my headset seems to go down scarily fast. For most people, this shouldn’t be too bad as most VR porn viewing sessions aren’t that long. But for the VR Porn Bro that often has a lot of content to review and sort through, it can be annoying to have to do this in shorter bursts. I don’t’ think it is Oculus’ fault really, we just need to wait for battery technology to improve.
Fiddly Typing
One of the reasons I love using the Play’A app for my Oculus Go, is because it allows me to save websites (and their passwords) to the app itself. This means I only have to type this information into the Oculus once and we are good to go. This is awesome because typing on the Go is a bit fiddly and slow. You can imagine using an on screen keyboard with a laser pointer style controller right? Yeah, it’s not ideal. This is the downside of not having a headset that is connected to a PC (and thus a keyboard). Actually, for other tasks the controls work well, just not for typing!
It Gets Hot
I have noticed that my unit is hot to the touch after watching VR porn for anything over 15-20 minutes. And one time I got a warning to say that the Go was overheating and needed to take a break. I suppose this is the problem with trying to cram powerful mobile technology into a VR headset. And there are no vents on the unit, so it must be passively cooled. It’s not a deal breaker, more of an annoyance that I hope Oculus improve with time.
Would I Recommend the Oculus Go for VR Porn?
Although this headset is not perfect by any means, it still gets a solid recommendation for VR porn from me. It brings the ability to watch high resolution VR porn for a fraction of the cost of past headsets, all in one simple to use package. With prices getting as low as $130, it brings the world of VR porn to a much wider group of people. These types of headsets will help the VR porn industry boom again 🙂
